5 Reasons Hats Are Worn Less Now Than in the Past Since the beginning of time, self-expression has been quite popular. From the color of a gown defining your wealth to something as simple as jewelry, humans have always taken fashion seriously. Up until the 2000s, hats haven’t seemed to be as popular as they used to be. Hats are worn less now than in the past due to new hairstyles and colors, fashion trends, prices, transportation, and difficulty cleaning them. Despite the neglect hats have to face, there still seems to be an abundance of them sold everywhere, so it seems some people still like them. To learn more about the reasons why hats are so underappreciated, you should read on. Who knows, you might learn something cap-tivating (pun intended). Hairstyles & Colors As aforementioned, self-expression is taken quite seriously, so it’s no surprise that hair lands itself as one of the greatest forms of self-expression. In fact, for many cultures, hair is quite important. From Native American hair to black hair, there are many fascinating styles that are very important to their cultures. So people with these beautiful cultures likely won’t waste their time with something as restricting as a hat. And who could blame them? However, that’s not all. There are also many people who don’t wear hats because they want to show off their new dyed hair, which has nothing to do with culture. Dying your hair has become pretty decently popular in the past couple of decades, so it’s no surprise that people who dye their hair wouldn’t wear hats. Why not show off your royal blue hair? Fashion Trends Fashion trends change just about as fast as the weather does, so it’s a bit shocking that hats are hardly included in many trends. Many people seem to prefer bandanas, headbands, and other headpieces rather than hats. Regardless of that, hats are still part of many different fashion trends, just not as many trends as they used to. Prices Believe it or not, hats can get expensive! From simple beanies from the dollar store to real leather hats from high-end retailers, prices can range anywhere from a dollar to thousands of dollars. Like I said before–Some people take self-expression seriously. Transportation In case you’re not aware, hats were seen as very important for men in the past because they would protect men from any harsh weather while walking long distances. Once the invention of the car rolled around, people no longer felt the need to wear hats. Plus, many people fear that their hats will be gone with the wind while they’re in their cars with the windows down or on their motorcycles. It’s happened before, and trust me, it’s not fun in the slightest. They’re Difficult To Clean While this may be a bit of a stretch, certain hats are quite difficult to clean and maintain. If they’re not cleaned properly, there’s a chance they could cause rashes and irritation. That’s not exactly what someone would want when they’re just trying to wear a hat, right? Conclusion Overall, people seem to wear hats less due to new hair colors and styles, new fashion trends, prices, transportation, and difficulty cleaning. Even so, hats still remain quite a popular addition to any outfit, so don’t let this list discourage you from getting one.
